FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - 2022 Ontario Tankard

  • WHAT IS THE TANKARD? 
    The Tankard is the annual provincial curling championship that determines the Ontario Men’s representative to The Tim Horton’s Brier, the Canadian championship. 
  • WHEN DOES IT TAKE PLACE? 
    THE ’22 event starts on February 9 and ends on February 13
  • WHERE DOES IT TAKE PLACE?
    The Plex in Port Elgin
  • WHERE CAN I BUY TICKETS?
    Currently ticket sales are suspended due to Covid capacity restrictions
  • WHAT ARE THE TICKET PRICES? 
    (+ HST)
    Event pass - $125
    Weekend package (Sat/Sun) - $65
    Daily pass - $34; except Sunday - $38
    Single game ticket - $17.50, except Sunday - $20
  • WHAT IS THE GAME SCHEDULE?
    Wed. Feb.9           Opening Ceremonies at 6:00; Draw 1 at 7:00
    Thur. Feb 10         Draw 2 at 1:30 pm and Draw 3 at 7:00 pm
    Fri. Feb 11            Draw 4 at 1:30 pm and Draw 5 at 7:00 pm
    Sat. Feb 12           Draw 6 at 11:00 am and Draw 7 at 5:00 pm    (9:00 pm tiebreaker (if req’d))
    Sat. Feb 12           Special Olympics finals at 3:00 pm
    Sun. Feb 13          Semi-final at 9:00 am; Final at 2:00 pm
  • WHO’S PLAYING? 
    The teams start playing in regions across the province in the late fall. The teams that finally qualify are determined in January. 

  • WOULD I RECOGNISE TEAMS WHO HAVE PLAYED IN PAST TANKARDS? 
    Teams who have won the Tankard and have gone on to play at the Brier include notables such as Eddy Werenich, Paul Savage, Russ Howard, Glen Howard, Bruce Munro, Peter Corner, Mike Harris, Wayne Middaugh, and John Epping
  • SO, WHAT IS THE PATCH? 
    The Patch is the hub, party central upstairs at the Plex. The Port Elgin Chrysler ’22 Tankard is going to “Rock this Town” and the The Patch is where you’ll find food, beverage, entertainment and fun, both during and between games. 
  • ACCOMMODATION? 
    There are numerous hotels, motels and bed and breakfasts available in Saugeen Shores. A full listing may be found on the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce web site. Holiday Inn (1-519-832-2227) and Super 8 (1-519-832-2058) are event sponsors and are offering special event packages. 
  • ARE THERE ANY SPECIAL EVENTS I SHOULD BE AWARE OF?
    Yes, the SPECIAL OLYMPIANS are an integral part of the Tankard. They play their provincial championship on Saturday February 12 at 3:00 pm. It’s another level of elite curling. Don’t miss it!
