tThere's always something going on at the club.
With the proposed changes to the Board, the day-to-day running of the curling club will move to committees. Being a part of one of these committees will be a great way to cover your volunteer hours. To be clear, these are NOT Board positions and all of these positions need to be filled for the Curling Club to operate. A Board member will mentor each group and provide guidance as required.
We still have openings in the following areas:
Health & Safety (three members) – updated Concussion protocol, monitoring the First Aid kit (restocking as needed), following up with Incidents, making sure we are aligned with WHMIS protocols (mainly for cleaning products or any products Ice makers might use), kitchen cleanliness protocol, creating documented procedures on how to handle an infectious outbreak (such as we experienced with Covid), formulate a checklist for an annual review of the club to make sure all areas are in a safe condition.
Publicity & Communications (two members) – submit curling articles to local media; notify local media and other local curling clubs of special events and bonspiels; inform the membership of out-of-club bonspiels; possibly someone to take care of the website
Rentals (three members) – book rentals of ice surface, lounge and/or kitchen before, during and after the curling season; maintain rental/ice time calendar; ensure contracts are signed and payments including “damage deposits” are received; perform pre & post rental inspection; coordinate with Ice Maker, Caretaker and Bar Manager; prepare and submit a monthly Rental Report to the Board
Housing & Building (four members) – oversee all routine and emergency maintenance of the building, grounds and equipment; works in conjunction with the club Caretaker; participates in research and cost estimates of capital improvements; schedules and assists in the installation of capital improvements upon approval of the Board.
If any of these positions interest you or if you have any questions, please contact Deb Struys at This email address is being protected from spambots. Congratulations to Team Kean!
Mark Kean and his team out of Woodstock defeated Team Ferris of Grimsby 7-4 on Sunday afternoon to win the 41st Stu Sells Port Elgin Super Spiel.
The Port Elgin Curling Club and the organizing committee would like to thank all of our generous sponsors, the volunteers, the community and, of course, Stu Sells for making the 2023 Super Spiel a great event. To the curlers, we would like to extend our appreciation for your participation and for providing an incredible weekend of curling. We hope you had a great time and we look forward to seeing you again next year.

Getting ready for the 2023/2024 season
If you've ever wondered how the ice is made for the upcoming season, here's your chance to see.
Thanks to Joel for the pictures and the videos
White washing in preparation for the ice

If you have never seen the ice come out of the curling club, here are some videos. Thanks to Mike Myatt for sharing.

Congratulations to Team Cassidy and Team Raven on winning their divisions. It was wonderful to watch the Juniors and witness what great curlers they have become. Thanks to Rob for the delicious food (as always). We hope everyone had a great season, enjoy your summer and we'll see you again in the fall.

The Strathcona Cup, the world’s oldest international curling competition, is returning to the Port Elgin Curling Club. Contested every fifth year between Canada and Scotland, this edition pitted four Scottish teams against four of Port Elgin’s best teams.
It was a wonderful day of fun, friendship, good curling and great food (and drink).
Thank you to all who took part.

A BIG thank you to our sponsor of the 40th Super Spiel. We could not have done it without you.

Since January of 1983, the Port Elgin Curling Club has been the host of Super Spiel. The brain child of Ken Dunlop, Super Spiel has provided a great mix of local teams skipped by the likes of Gary Cobean, Dave Cobean, Steve Gregg, Gary Hamer, Fred Fleet, Ken Dunlop, Al Hutchinson, Paul Godward and Curtis Cassidy, and world class experience and/or world championships. This included Russ Howard, Glen Howard, Ed Werenich, Paul Savage, John Base, Wayne Middaugh, and Olympic silver medalist Mike Harris.
Super Spiel has also had an international flair on more than one occasion. A team from Scotland was here in 1999. The French National team has also been an entrant. This year, we are happy to welcome a team from Japan.
After two years of Covid restrictions, we are excited to be able to provide the great hospitality, food and entertainment for which Super Spiel has become known.
This year's Super Spiel is the 40th, running November 17-20 at the Port Elgin Curling Club. Eighteen teams will be playing a Triple Knockout format for a $14,000 purse and points to possibly participate in the Ontario Tankard. As you will see below, many of the teams participating in this year's event were part of the Port Elgin Chrysler '22 Ontario Tankard presented by Bruce Power last February at the Plex. We are happy to welcome them back to the area and wish all the teams "Good Curling!"
